Flavor 574 launches new digital magazine

This weekend, we launch the very first issue of the Flavor 574 digital magazine. It features brand new features that can’t be found anywhere else, in a fun-to-read, interactive format. The magazine is available on Apple, Android and Kindle tablets, through the free Elkhart Truth Publishing app. 

The theme for Flavor 574’s summer issue is Homegrown. There’s story from Marshall King about Dean Karacson, who’s been growing tomatoes in Edwardsburg for 50 years.

There’s also a feature about backyard chickens in which two families in South Bend and one outside Warsaw share their experiences and offer tips to those aspiring to start a flock. Plus, we’ve gathered information about where to buy chickens and what rules apply in different area cities.

Another story, about the farm to table movement in Michiana, looks at one local farm, Clay Bottom Farm, that supplies produce to a few Goshen restaurants and why the chefs at the restaurants value that relationship.

The summer issue of Flavor 574 also features a calendar of summer food and drink festivals and a roundup of some of the recent buzz on the food scene.

Getting your hands the magazine is easy — just download the Elkhart Truth Publishing app, then you’ll get a notification when a new issue is available. Download the issue of Flavor 574 magazine, and you’ll be able to access it from anywhere to read at your leisure.

How to use the magazine

This is easy too, and a lot of fun. Simply swipe left and right to navigate between articles, then swipe up and down to turn the page within an article. Many pages have text that you can scroll through at your own pace.

Keep an eye out for videos to watch, photo slideshows, tip boxes that you can tap or swipe to discover more and maps that you can explore.
