Where to pick pumpkins in Michiana in 2016

There’s no hiding from it anymore: stores have been quietly shuffling in costumes and creating giant displays of candy. Halloween is rapidly approaching.

No matter if you’re looking for a nice pumpkin to carve into a terrifying jack-o’-lantern, or if you’re looking for some ingredients for a homemade pie, here are some of the places you can go to find the perfect pumpkin.

A-mazing Acres Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch

Where: 18430 U.S. 12 E., Edwardsburg, Mich.
Open: From 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 30.
Description: This year, the farm is helping to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the cartoon “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” with a themed maze. There will also be a petting zoo, and you can reserve a campfire evening.

Amish Acres

Where: 1600 W. Market St., Nappanee
Open: The patch is open through the season from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Amish Acres Fall Harvest Days runs through Nov. 1.
Description: Visitors may take a hayride to the pumpkin patch during Harvest Days. The price of a children’s hayride ticket includes a pumpkin. There will also be games, a petting zoo and apple butter and apple cider making demonstrations.

Bullard’s Farm Market

Where: 5220 Middlebury St., Elkhart
Open: From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Description: Bullard’s staff will have pre-picked pumpkins available for purchase at the market, along with other in-season foods. The farm will also be hosting its 6th annual Fall Fest from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 1.

Hilltop Farms

Where: 13825 Dragoon Trail, Mishawaka
Open: From 1 to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Cost: $5.25 for large pumpkins.
Description: The u-pick patch is open for the season. Picking times are all weather dependent.

Kercher’s Sunrise Orchards

Where: 19498 C.R. 38 Goshen
Open: From 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Description: You can pick your own pumpkin in Kercher’s u-pick patch and you’ll also be able to go for hayrides and can stop in the orchard for u-pick apples. The farm will also host a harvest festival on Oct. 1 and Oct. 2.

Knollbrook Farm

Where: 15463 C.R. 46, Goshen
Open: From 4 to 8 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; and from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, through Oct. 30.
Cost: Admission for events is $7 per person.
Description: Knollbrook boasts a massive 12-acre corn maze as well as a u-pick pumpkin patch, petting zoo and games for the entire family. There are also fall decorations, including gourds and mums, for sale at the farm market.

Linton’s Enchanted Gardens

Where: 315 C.R. 17, Elkhart
Open: From 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Description: The month of October is a festival at Linton’s. A pumpkin patch, set aside with a photo opportunity, will be on display at the gardens. The Pumpkin Patch Express will be running: tickets for the ride are $4.99 and include a pumpkin.

Matthy’s Farm Market

Where: 57754 Crumstown Hwy., South Bend
Open: 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, through Oct. 31.
Description: Opening day for fall activities is Oct. 1. Events will continue through the entire month and include hayrides, a corn maze, a u-pick pumpkin patch and a petting zoo. Events will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, through October. Pre-picked pumpkins are available any day during the week.

Stanton Road Pumpkin Patch

Where: 26390 Stanton Road, Walkerton
Open: from 9 a.m. to dusk on weekends through October.
Cost: Prices range from $0.99 fro small pumpkins and up to $5.49 for jumbo pumpkins (20 lbs. or more).
Description: The u-pick pumpkin patch is now open for the season. They also have mums available for purchase. All major credit cards are accepted.

Thistleberry Farm

Where: 61391 Mayflower Road, South Bend
Open: From 3 to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday; from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday; from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; and from 11 a.m. to  5 p.m. Sundays. On Oct. 2 and Oct. 30, the farm will be open from 1 to 5 p.m.
Cost: 39 cents per pound.
Description: The farm is currently open for u-pick pumpkins as well as its other attractions. There is no charge to enter the pumpkin patch for picking, but there is an admission charge for the farm’s other attractions.
