It’s been a long six months without Dainty Maid Bake Shop in South Bend, but the sweets are officially on sale again.

Cops and Doughnuts Dainty Maid Precinct opened at 5 a.m. Tuesday, ABC 57 reported.

Dainty Maid closed in February after owner David Hab died. The bakery, which has been a downtown South Bend staple for 88 years, was immediately put on the market.

Cops and Doughnuts in Claire, Mich., bought the bakery in May and promised to carry on the traditional flavor of Dainty Maid while adding its own style to the mix.

The classic red Dainty Maid Bake Shop banner still adorns the windows of the bakery at 231 S. Michigan St., and new signs in the window alert customers of the new ownership.

Cops and Doughnuts Dainty Maid Precinct is open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. everyday. Call the bakery at 574-232-8219 for more information.
