Summertime fairs and events for Michiana foodies
The warm (okay, hot and muggy) days of summer have arrived in Michiana, and that means it’s event season.
We’ve put together a list of some of the foodie events going on between now and August that will fill your calendar, and your tummy.

St. Joseph County 4-H Fair: The 91st annual fair will be from July 1 to 9 at the St. Joseph County 4-H Fairgrounds, 5117 Ironwood Road, South Bend. Performances will include Linda Lee, Art and the Artichokes, Brett Eastburn, Jon Reep, DeWayne Spaw, Valerie Ingle, Starheart and Three Dog Night.
Corsets, Whips and Whiskey Party: Journeyman Distillery’s 5th annual summer party will be from 11:30 a.m. to midnight at Journeyman’s, 109 Generations Drive, Three Oaks, Mich. The event, named after the products made in the historic Featherbone Factory (where Journeyman’s now occupies) is a family friendly event that will feature live music, craft drinks and themed foods. Performing will be Robert Rolfe Feddersen, the Gerry Hundt Trio, Brother StarRace and Stealin the Farm. Music begins at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
Reds, Whites and Brews: The event, which focuses on the local brewing revolution, is a two-day event will be July 2 and 3, Round Barn Winery, Distillery and Brewery, 10983 Hills Road, Baroda, Mich. The winery will open at normal business hours, but music kicks off the festivities on both days at 1 p.m. Performing will be Vincent Hayes at 1 p.m. July 2; Mr. Blotto at 4 p.m. July 2; JR Clark and the All Star Blues Mob at 1 p.m. July 3; and Slim Gypsy Baggage at 4 p.m. July 3. Reservations are recommended for those wishing to do a wine tasting. A cover of $5 will charged per person. Chairs, umbrellas and tents are welcome.
Beer Dinner: A special beer and food pairing will be at 6 p.m. at McCarthy’s on the Riverwalk, 333 NIBCO Parkway, Ste. A, Elkhart. Breweries will include Founders, Short’s, Sixpoint, Stone, Stiegl and Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co. The cost is $50 per person. Make reservations by calling 293-2830.
EnviroFest: The event, which features live music, local food and beer from South Bend Brew Werks, food vendors, exhibits, and an activity area for kids, will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Wellfield Botanic Gardens, 1011 N. Main St. Elkhart. The event is sponsored by the Elkhart Environmental Center and 88.1 WVPE. Admission is $5 for adults, and children 12 and under are free. Rotors and Ribs: The 5th annual event will be from 5 to 10 p.m. on July 15 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 16 at the Goshen Municipal Airport, 17229 C.R. 42, Goshen. Events on July 15 will be private for pilots and vendors. Public activities begin at 8 a.m. on July 16 with the 5k Rotor Run, then gates will open at 10 a.m. and include educational displays, barbecue ribs from Tony’s Restaurant in Findlay, Ohio, a kid zone and helicopter rides in Hueys and Cobras. The helicopter air show will begin at 1 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults in advance, or $10 at the door. Students between 3 and college age (with ID) are $4 in advance and $5 at the door. Lemon Creek Winery Vintage Blues Bash: The event will be from noon to 8 p.m. featuring music from Mortals 2, Shake N’ Chill and Elwood Splinters Blues Band at the winery, 533 E. Lemon Creek Road, Berrien Springs. There will be wine tasting, hay rides and grilled food. Admission for attendees 21 and older is $12. Those under 21 are free when accompanied by family.
SummerFest Music and Microbrews: The event, featuring live music, local food and craft beer, will be from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Shadowland Pavilion in Silver Beach County Park, 101 Broad St., Saint Joseph, Mich. Music will include PS Dump Your Boyfriend and Mega 80s. Tickets are $20 in advance, and $25 on the day of the event.
Kamm Island Fest: The 13th annual event will be from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at Kamm Island Park, 600 W. Front St., Mishawaka. The popular summer festival will feature music by BLAMMO, The Sandbar Bums and the Caledonia Kilty Pipe Band, a vintage car show, a bike show, an art fair and food from local restaurants. Admission is $5. Must be 21 or older to attend.
Elkhart County 4-H Fair: The annual fair will be from July 22 to 30 at the fairgrounds, 17746 C.R. 34, Goshen. Performing will be Foreigner, Trace Adkins, Chris Janson, the Eli Young Band and Building 429.
Art and Music at the Vineyard: The two-day outdoor show, featuring artists, live music, craft drinks and food, will be July 30 and 31 at Round Barn Winery, Distillery and Brewery, 10983 Hills Road, Baroda, Mich. Reservations are recommended for those wishing to do a wine tasting. A cover of $5 will charged per person. Chairs, umbrellas and tents are welcome.
Middlebury Summer Festival: The popular annual parade will be Aug. 12 and 13 in downtown Middlebury. There will be a parade, live music, children’s activities, crafts and festival food, including kettle corn, lemon shake-ups, cotton candy, pulled pork, hot dogs and old fashioned sodas. Sips and Sounds: The beach wine festival will be from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Shadowland Pavilion in Silver Beach County Park, 101 Broad St., Saint Joseph. The event will be a celebration of Michigan wine, local cuisine and live music. Performing will be Top Secret Band at 5 p.m. and Libido Funk Circus at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 on the day of the event.
Double Thai Day: The end of summer celebration of beer will be from noon to 9 p.m. at Bare Hands Brewery, 12804 Sandy Court, Granger. There will be more than 10 breweries and more than 30 taps. There will also be food available from La Margarita’s Mexican food truck from Indianapolis, The Grateful Green Food Truck and Greenbush’s Brisket Van. There will also be live music from Hey Annie and Robert Rolfe Feddersen. Bare Hands will also be releasing their seasonal Double Thai.P.A. during the event. Attendees will be able to pick up their pre-ordered bottles with an allotment ticket. Tickets are $20 for general admission, and may be purchased online from Bare Hands. Must be 21 or older to attend.
Taste of the Gardens: The annual event will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Wellfield Botanic Gardens, 1011 N. Main St., Elkhart. The family friendly event will features artist exhibits, live music and food from local restaurants. Tickets are $6 in advance or $8 on the day of the event.
Michiana Renaissance Festival: The 6th annual festival will be Aug. 27 and 28 at Kamm Island Park, 600 W. Front St., Mishawaka. There will be renaissance, pirate, viking, fairytale and sectors of the festival. There will also be live combat demonstrations.
Ligonier Marshmallow Festival: The 25th annual festival will be from Sept. 2 to 5 in downtown Ligonier. There will be children’s activities, live music and entertainment, a parade, a marshmallow roast, food and game tournaments.
Marshall County Blueberry Festival: The 50th annual festival will be Sept. 2 to 5 at Centennial Park, 1660 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. There will be live music and entertainment, festival food, crafts, a parade, fireworks and a fun run and a 5k and 15k run.
Mishawaka Heritage Festival: The event will be from 4 to 10 p.m. at Central Park, 295 E. Mishawaka Ave., Mishawaka. There will be food, drink, historical information, music, activities and fireworks.
