As northern Indiana shakes off winter, gardens are reviving and The Garden is reopening.
The outdoor dining space next to Cerulean in Winona Lake will be open again starting at 5 p.m. Friday.
Logan Miller, who was a manager at Pizzeria Venturi, is joining Cerulean to be general manager for The Garden, 1101 E. Canal St., which first opened in 2010.
He will oversee the space and is planning a different kind of cocktail. He’s planning to make batches of libations and put it on a nitro tap. He said he’s not aware of another place in the country putting cocktails on tap in this way.
The tiny carbonated bubbles that become part of a nitro system will lend a creaminess to the drinks. His first is one with grapefruit, Campari, gin and elderflower liqueur. “I think I’m going to call it Diamond in the Rough,” he said.
The Garden will have six taps, five for beer and one for cider, and offer refined American bar food, such as burgers and tacos, sourced from the farms that Cerulean already uses for its restaurants in Indianapolis and Winona Lake.
The outdoor venue will have music throughout the summer. The Garden Series shows will happen monthly and festivals are planned in Winona Lake as well. The Garden will close after an event on Sept. 24.
Miller is planning open mic competitions on Wednesday nights. Miller wants to do trivia competitions where the winning team gets a large chalice to use for a week, much as Constant Spring does in Goshen. There are also plans for Taco Tuesday, where The Garden will offer two tacos and a beer for $10.
Hours for The Garden, which is uncovered except for when tents will be put up for events, are 5 to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday.
