Indiana Craft Beer Week 2016: How breweries in Michiana are celebrating beer week

Indiana Craft Beer Week began Sunday, April 24, and will run through Saturday, April 30.

Since this event covers the state from South Bend to Louisville, and Terre Haute to Richmond, Indiana on Tap created a unique way to unite craft beer drinkers across the state throughout the week.

Each day, at a designated time, there will be a statewide cheers. Take a picture of yourself drinking an Indiana beer at the daily time posted on the website, post it on Instagram or Twitter tagging the brewery and using #INCraftBeerWeek, and you will be entered to win a Tasting Society membership.

Here is a partial list of Indiana Craft Beer Week events in Michiana:

For Indiana Craft Beer Week, Iechyd Da Brewing is tapping an Oddjob (one-off, specialty small batch) each day. Tapping times vary due to hours of operation

  • Sunday, April 24: Dortmunder with lavender and lemon
  • Tuesday, April 26: Dragon’s Lair Imperial Coffee Stout with hazelnut
  • Wednesday, April 27: Revolution IPA with Blood Orange and basil
  • Thursday, April 28: Breakfast Cookies Milk Stout with toasted coconut and pecan
  • Friday, April 29: Prosperity Pale-Zythos with pineapple and mango
  • Saturday, April 30: Cantankerous Irish Red with peach, vanilla and cinnamon

Miles Lab has 20 taps and will be featuring beers from Three Floyd’s, Upland, Daredevil, Triton, Bloomington Brewing, Thr3e Wise Men, Bare Hands, Goshen Brewing Co., and Burn ’em Brewing. On Friday, they will host a tap takeover with six Iechyd Da beers including a limited Blood Orange Revolution IPA and a guest appearance by brewery owners Chip and Summer Lewis. The event will begin around 4 p.m.

The event will begin at noon Saturday, April 30, and will feature more than 75 breweries.

Four ticket levels are available and range from $99 to $45 for beer drinkers and $15 for designated drivers.

Tony Saccos will feature a tap takover on Monday, April 25, with beers from Great Lakes Brewing Company. Beers will include Dortmunder Gold Lager, Chillwave Double IPA, and Rise and Hop IPA. Rise and Hop is a pub exclusive offering brewed with Ethiopian cold-brewed coffee from Phoenix Coffee.

Tickets for Double Thai Day go on sale on Sunday, April 24. The event takes place Saturday, Aug. 7 and you can find all the details at their webpage.

Goshen Brewing Company will be hosting its first 2016 Mug Club Party this week, and if you are a club member you will get first crack at bourbon-barrel aged Drain the Canal. This is a barleywine that was brewed in collaboration with the Goshen Homebrew club. Last week they tapped Irish Fog (7.2 percent ABV, 42 IBUs), a traditional dry Irish stout with a nontraditional high ABV.

During Beer Week, GBCo will tap two firkins: Irish Fog with cocoa nibs and cumin, and Mill Race Hefe (5.9 percent ABV) with raspberries and lime. Look for the regular version of Irish Fog on nitrogen soon as well as other new beers on tap, and at least one beer run through a Randall during beer week. Check out their Facebook page for more details as they develop.

This is by no means a complete list of Indiana Craft Beer Week activities for Michiana. If you know of others not mentioned here, please leave info in the comments section. For a full state-wide listing of events, check out the Indiana On Tap Beer Week webpage.
