Downtown South Bend schedules Wine Walks, Beer Walks, Summer Restaurant Week

Mark your calendars. The dates have been set for the 2016 Wine Walk and Downtown South Bend’s Summer Restaurant Week.

The first Wine Walk is May 11 with a wine- or beer-centered event happening every month through October. Restaurant Week is June 20 to July 3.

Other Wine Walks will happen June 8, Aug. 10 and Sept. 14, with Beer Walks on July 13 and Oct. 12.

From 5 to 9 p.m. on those nights, participants will get a wristband and tasting glass to try three beers or wines at three locations, with food. Dream Coach Carriages will offer free rides and Doubletree by Hilton will provide shuttle service.

Thirteen restaurants are part of this year’s walks, said Jill Scicchitano, interim executive director of Downtown South Bend, the organizing group. Tapastrie, which opened late last year, and Vegetable Buddies, which could open soon, will join the lineup, she said.

Wine Walk started in 2011 and the great weather last year helped businesses, she said.

This year’s Summer Restaurant Week will feature 18 restaurants. The charity partner again is Memorial Children’s Hospital, which will get a portion of every special sold. “We’re always excited to work with them,” Scicchitano said.

Specials offered during restaurant week will again be $11, $22 and $33, she said.
