Lent 2016: Which area churches and organizations are hosting fish frys during Lent

Lent, the Catholic practice of abstaining from meat on Fridays, is upon us again. Area churches and organizations are beginning to offer special fish frys and deals on fish for the Lenten season, which culminates on Good Friday, March 25.

Here are a few fish frys in the Michiana area for Lent. Did we miss your favorite? Let us know in the comments, and we’ll add it to the list.

Friday, Feb. 19

Knights of Columbus 1043, Elkhart
Every Friday during Lent

  • Time: 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Menu: Fish, scalloped potatoes, coleslaw and bread.
  • Cost: Adults are $9; children 6 to 12 are $4; children 5 and younger are free.

Knights of Columbus Council 5521, South Bend
Every Friday during Lent

  • Time: 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Menu: Shrimp or all-you-can-eat fish, baked potato or fries, coleslaw, bread and coffee. Cheese pizza for $1 for children.
  • Cost: Adults are $8.50 for fish or $9 for shrimp; children ages 5 to 12 are $3.50 for fish or $4 for shrimp; children 4 and younger are free.

Knights of Columbus Council 553, South Bend
Every Friday during Lent

  • Time: 5 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Menu: All-you-can-eat fried or baked Alaskan pollock, side dishes and cash bar. They will also have pierogi dinners. Carryout available.
  • Cost: Adults are $10; children ages 6 to 14 are $5; children 5 and younger are free.

Maple City Bowl, Goshen
Every Friday during Lent

  • Time 5 to 9:30 p.m.
  • Menu: All-you-can-eat fish, fries and coleslaw

Niles (Mich.) Elks Lodge 1322, Niles

  • Menu: All-you-can-eat fried whitefish, coleslaw, baked potato and dessert bar.

St. Anthony de Padua Church and School, South Bend

  • Time: 4 to 7 p.m.
  • Menu: All-you-can-eat fish. Additional menu items are apple sauce, chips and coleslaw.
  • Cost: Adults are $9 for presale and $10 at the door; seniors are $8 for presale and $9 at the door; children ages 5 to 10 are $5 for presale and $6 at the door. Tickets are available at the church office.

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Goshen
Also occurs every Friday of Lent in the school gym

  • Time: 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Menu: Includes all-you-can-eat pollock, scalloped potatoes, macaroni and cheese, four-bean salad, coleslaw, apple sauce, bread and butter, macaroni salad and beverages. Carryout available.
  • Cost: Adults are $9; children ages 5 to 10 are $4; children 5 and younger are free.

St. Pius X, Granger

  • Time: 4 to 7 p.m.
  • Menu: Other available items will include coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, french fries, juice and coffee.
