Hundreds of people turned out for the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1043’s annual chicken and mojo dinner on Saturday.

According to Grand Knight Steve Riikonen, the event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the group and helps them pay for the knights’ work the rest of the year.

“All the money we raise goes towards our charitable work the rest of the year,” he said.

Riikonen said that they had pre-sold about 750 tickets and had sold another 100 tickets at the door as of 3:30 p.m. Saturday. In total, he said they expected to serve 1,000 people.

The chicken and mojos closely follows the old Shakey’s recipe, but for legal purposes they cannot use the exact recipe, he said.

“It brings back a lot of childhood memories for a lot of these people,” Riikonen said. “They all have a connection to Shakey’s.”

Riikonen said that ticket pre-sales were down about 10 percent from last year, but that the event was still a success.
