Tickets are still available for the annual Shakey’s meal at the Elkhart Knights of Columbus.

Steve Riikonen said Tuesday that a few hundred tickets could still be sold either prior to the event or at the door on Saturday. You can purchase tickets at the Knights of Columbus hall between 4 and 8 p.m. through Friday and, if any are available, at the door on Saturday. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children age 5 to 13 and free for 4 and under.

Chicken and potatoes are ordered and will be delivered on Friday. Prep work will kick into gear as the potatoes are cut into mojos and the chicken will be brined.

On Saturday morning, volunteers will gather again to get ready to feed as many as 1,000 people between noon and 6 p.m. The hall can seat about 300 people.

The event has sold out each of the last three years and it’s become the largest fundraiser for the Catholic group. KOC uses the proceeds to purchase 450 food baskets each holiday season, give scholarships and make donations throughout the year. The group gives out more than $60,000 a year, Riikonen said.

This fourth annual meal will again feature the fried chicken and mojos that thousands came to love when two Shakey’s restaurants were open in the city. The Eppers family that operated the restaurants brings the flavors and techniques back once a year for this event. The meal also includes salad and fresh bread.
