Five hundred pounds of rib tips aren’t going to grill themselves.
Organizers of this year’s South Side Family Fun Fest on Sunday, Sept. 6 in Elkhart, need participants for the barbecue cook-off, according to Flavor 574’s partners at The Elkhart Truth.
1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6
Historic Roosevelt Center, Elkhart
The meat cooked in the grilling competition is sold at the festival and the money helps hometown kids visit historically black colleges and universities, The Elkhart Truth reports.
Jason Moreno, a community organizer with LaCasa Inc., is coordinating the festival and hopes for about 15 to 20 entries for this year, up from last year’s 10 entries.
It’s $25 to enter the cook-off and the winner will be determined by a panel of five, according to The Elkhart Truth. The winner will get a grill donated by Meijer.
Each participant must bring their own grill, charcoal and lighter fluid, according to the festival website. Southside will supply the meat, which must be cleaned and cooked on-site at the Roosevelt Center.
Registration is open on southsidefamilyfest.com.
