Goshen brewery Thomas-Stieglitz Brewing Co. is moving ahead with building renovation

If you have driven past 211 S. Fifth St. in Goshen recently, you may have seen some changes happening inside those big windows out front.

The building which was most recently The Local, and before that a dry cleaning business, is now home to Janus Motercycles, and soon to also be the home of Thomas-Stieglitz Brewing Co.

As with many other local breweries that have opened or are in the process of opening, Gary Stieglitz and Jeff Thomas have been patiently awaiting permits at the state and federal level, and have been making changes to the building that houses their brewery.

I love the fact that so many of our local breweries are re-purposing older buildings, even though it is often more work.

Yesterday I stopped in to chat with Gary Stieglitz about the progress and he seemed quite optimistic about how things are going. The walls for the brewery, bathroom and serving area are all framed in and now the electric is being installed.

Although he didn’t give me an opening date, he did assure me that they will have some tastings in the upcoming future — possibly at a First Friday sometime after August.

Some restaurants in the area that have already committed to draft accounts, and the brewery will definitely be pouring growlers for take-out when it opens.

At some point, Stieglitz and Thomas hope to be able to serve pints for consumption on site, but they are not sure how soon after opening that will take place.

Check in often on the brewery’s Thomas-Stieglitz Brewing Co. Facebook page or here on Hop Notes to watch the progress.
