Around the Corner Cafe is closing one door, but plans to open a second soon.
The Dunlap location of the restaurant Around the Corner Cafe, 23677 U.S. 33, served its last meals Sunday, July 19, after about two years of operation.
Faithful followers need not despair, though. Owners Raul and Lori Santana will continue to operate the downtown Elkhart location of Around the Corner Cafe at 231 N. Main St.
They plan to open a new location at 15513 U.S. 12 in Union, Mich. by the first week of August. The site was formerly home to Sharp’s Lounge.

“We got a really good deal on it. It was an opportunity to buy and have something to own, instead of leasing,” Lori Santana said. “That’s the only reason (for closing). We love Dunlap and we have a lot of good customers out there.”
Santana said a few full-time employees have been re-integrated at other locations. She said the Union location’s kitchen staff is full, but the cafe is still accepting applications for servers. Prospective employees are encouraged to inquire through the cafe’s Facebook page.
“Right now, about all we’re trying to do is get open,” she said.
Tentative hours for the new Union location are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, the cafe will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., serving the same menu found at the other locations.
Santana said she was unsure whether her husband will extend Saturday hours into the evening.
“We really appreciate everybody’s business and the opportunity to get our name out there,” she said. “We’re staying strong here.”
