An Ohio-based cheese company with Elkhart County history is getting its moment at this year’s Indiana State Fair.
Last week, the Indiana State Fair announced the winner of this year’s Farmer’s Signature Food, WISH-TV reports.

Out of the handful of entries, one was a muenster grilled cheese sandwich with muenster cheese from Guggisberg Cheese in Middlebury, according to WISH-TV.

Aug. 7-23, gates open at 8 a.m. daily
General admission: $12
Though the sandwich and other contenders were beat out by the smoked pig patty from the Indiana Pork Association, the cheese will still be featured at the American Dairy Association’s Dairy Bar, WISH-TV reports.
Guggisberg Deutsch Käse Haus was founded in 1979 by a local Amish man, Ralph Bontrager. The facility, 11275 W. 250 N., Middlebury, produces longhorn and stirred curd cheese.
In 2000, the shop won the World’s Greatest Colby award at the World Cheese Maker’s competition, according to its website.

The Indiana State Fair is August 7 through 23 at 1202 East 38th Street in Indianapolis. Fairgoers stopping at the Dairy Bar can grab grilled cheese, ice cream and other dairy goods, according to the Indiana State Fair website.
