Tuck into the biggest ice cream cone you want, because after that winter we endured, you deserve it. 

The official start to summer is Sunday, June 21, and there are plenty of ways you can make this summer in northern Indiana and southern Michigan the most delicious one on record. 

Flavor 574 has a list, which will be updated throughout the season, of things to do (staying at an Airbnb at Journeyman Distillery, food camps for the kids and more), things to make (refreshing sun tea or a great rack of ribs at your next cookout) and places to go (like cooling down at a local ice cream shop or finding your favorite food stand). 

Consider it your unofficial to-do list for summer. Have a great season ahead! 

DANDINO’S REOPENED IN GOSHEN 

After a “closed” sign hung from Dandino’s door Tuesday morning, June 16, things were up and running again by lunchtime Friday, June 19. 

The historic Goshen restaurant, 1407 Elkhart Road, is back after Chris Stoller reached an agreement with longtime owners Bob and Joan Allberry, according to previous Flavor 574 reporting. Stoller will be able to continue paying the Allberrys through December and then can purchase the restaurant. 

And he’s looking to taken on a partner.

NEW PARADIGM BREWING CO. STARTS SELLING OWN BREW 

Say hello to Michiana’s newest brewer — New Paradigm in downtown Elkhart. 

After getting its brewing permit in April, three of New Paradigm’s new beers flowed Thursday, June 18. 

About 60 people lined the bar and tables to get a first taste of the first batch, which co-owner Brandon Stanley said was well-received. 

“Everybody was really receptive,” he said. “We got some good-quality feedback.”
