About 60 people lined the bar and tables at New Paradigm Brewing Co. Thursday, June 18, to get a taste of its three new beers on sale.
This is the first batch the Elkhart brewery has prepared since it received its brewing permit in April, according to previous reporting by Flavor 574.
The evening began with members of the brewery’s mug club and the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce wetting their palates with the brews, which included Big Hopbowski, brewed with local honey and grapefruit rinds; Three Dog Bite, a Belgian-style trippel brewed with Horehound candy from Claeys Candy, Inc. in South Bend; and the Dead Fall, a Belgian-style bitter beer.
“Everybody was really receptive,” co-owner Brandon Stanley said. “We got some good-quality feedback.”
Stanley said his favorite beer is Dead Fall, because it’s the most “well-rounded beer for (his) palate.” The reason it’s called Dead Fall is because it’s made with locally sourced maple syrup.
There were going to be five beers Thursday evening, but Stanley said the other two were just not quite ready yet. They expect to begin selling those two brews next week.
