Primo Italian Eatery in downtown Elkhart has added an outdoor patio and new items to its menu in efforts to bring more people downtown for dinner, owner Josh Royer said.
The restaurant has been open since the first week of December, and Royer said it’s been getting steady business during the lunch hours. He hopes the additions will get people to come back to the restaurant once the sun goes down.
There are five tables in the fenced-off patio beside the restaurant at 201 S. Marion St., which can seat up to 20 people in total.
The restaurant has also added new sandwiches, flatbread pizzas, pasta bowls and a salad to the menu.

There’s the smoked pulled pork sandwich, which is made with pulled pork tossed in barbecue sauce and onions; and the blackened chicken Santa Fe sandwich, which is made with blackened chicken breast, bacon, sliced avocado, lettuce and cheesy jalapeño dressing.
Royer also added a Sante Fe chicken salad to the menu, which is made with romaine lettuce, black beans, corn salsa, sliced avocado, tortilla chips, monterey jack cheese and cheesy jalapeño dressing.
There are four types of flatbread, including margherita, chicken club, sweet and spicy bacon, and roasted vegetable. The new menu also features baked pasta bowls with options like spaghetti, ravioli lasagna, chicken alfredo and garden vegetable.
That’s in addition to pizza prices dropping by around $4, Royer said.
