Seven county-level winners were announced last week and an eighth wildcard competitor, who garnered the most votes throughout the first three voting rounds, will compete as the list whittles down. They are:
- Elkhart County: Rulli’s vs LaGrange County: Iannarelli’s Italian Restaurant
- St. Joseph County: Giannetto’s Pizza & Pasta vs. LaPorte County: Albano’s Villa
- Porter County: Duneland Pizza vs. Kosciusko County: The Cafe at The Bowling Alley
- Marshall County: Wooden Peel vs. Wildcard: Iechyd Da (Elkhart County)
There will be two more voting rounds to decide the top slice, with voting wrapping up June 29, according to previous Flavor 574 reporting.
Meanwhile, the NITDC is calling in Chicago travel guide author and journalist Kate Silver to select a Critic’s Choice winner.
Silver will visit each of the eight competitors June 13 and 14, sample their pies. She’ll score each, and the winning pizza will be announced along with the winner of the popular vote at the end of the competition.
“The bottom line is, a great pizza transcends style. It’s all about the melding of flavors and textures,” Silver said in a press release from NITDC.“I’m excited to check out the most beloved slices in northern Indiana and cast my vote.”
Flavor 574 will follow who is advancing and who is out as each round of voting closes. Meanwhile, you can cheer for your favorites or track the competition by following the tag #PizzaWarsNI. Follow Kate Silver’s trek through northern Indiana on Twitter @K8Silver.
