Elkhart’s Five Star Dive Bar is taking the plunge into craft beer, and is looking to the public for input.

Owner Jason Curtis said the demand for beer options beyond the standard domestic choices has grown steadily over the last year at his establishment, 561 E. Jackson Blvd.

In an effort to give the people what they want, Curtis is hosting the Five Star Dive Bar Beer Dinner beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 28, on the bar’s outdoor patio.

Five Star Dive Bar Beer Dinner
6 p.m. Thursday, May 28
561 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart

Tickets: $30 (maximum capacity of 50)

Eight varieties of beer from Bell’s Brewery, Lagunitas and Upland Brewing Company will be featured in a bracket-style voting system.

Curtis said bottles of the top three most popular beers from the dinner will be made available for purchase at the bar.

“Even with Iechyd Da and New Paradigm nearby – I don’t want to say we were resistant, because it’s not what we specialize in – but people are still asking for craft beers,” Curtis said.

Tickets to the tasting are $30 and include a three-course meal with a choice of New York strip steak, chicken or a vegetarian entree, served with salad, bread and a baked potato. Dessert will be cheesecake made in-house with fruit toppings.
