Pizza Wars is ready to kick off the tournament of toppings that will determine which local pizza parlor makes the best pie.
The Northern Indiana Tourism Development Commission is hosting the competition, pitting pizza-makers from seven counties against each other in a popularity contest that will declare the dominant dough.
Similar to the 2014 Burger Wars that took northern Indiana by storm, 56 restaurants, featuring eight representatives from each county, will be whittled down to one winner through six rounds of voting.

“Pizza is something people enjoy with their family and we have a lot of good mom-and-pop style pizza restaurants,” said Robby Bearss, marketing manager at NITDC.
Each participating convention and visitors bureau will be responsible for choosing the initial eight challengers that will represent its county in the contest, with a deadline of April 30.
Since Elkhart County is home base for Flavor 574, we’re helping them out by gathering nominations for who should represent Elkhart County in the contest. Let us know who you think should make the list by entering it in the form below.
Our friends in Kosciusko County will award a $50 gift card to one randomly chosen person who submits a nomination through its Facebook page. La Grange County will have a $25 gift card giveaway, but hasn’t started collecting nominations just yet.
Competition criteria require establishments to be locally owned and region-specific.
Bearss said in the event that a chain is spread across multiple counties and CVBs are unable to agree on who lays claim to it, the location of the original restaurant will be used.
Contenders will be tallied after April 30, and the first round of county-level voting will begin May 15.
May the best pizza win!
