Break out the shillelaghs and shamrocks — the annual feast of corned beef, cabbage and liquids dyed an unnatural shade of green is fast approaching.

March 17 marks the death anniversary of Saint Patrick, Ireland’s most recognized patron saint. Whether a feast or a parade is your style, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the day in northern Indiana — it is the home of the Fighting Irish, after all. 

 

FRIDAY, MARCH 13

Official St. Paddy’s Day Tent Party & Pub Tour — Downtown South Bend at the corner of Wayne and Michigan streets 

Details: 5 to 11 p.m., 21 and over

Cost: $5 general admission, $25 Green Room access

  • Live music from Libido Funk Circus, Phineas Gage Band, Sound FX and The Tumbleweed Jumpers.

 

SATURDAY, MARCH 14

McCarthy’s on the Riverwalk — 333 NIBCO Pkwy., Elkhart

Details: Greening of the Elkhart River at 1 p.m.

  • Bagpipers, green beer and a special St. Patrick’s Day menu will be featured.
  • Live music from Drop the Dawg beginning in the evening. 

Leprechaun Leap — 338 Johnson St., Goshen, Moose Lodge 836

Details: Doors open at 11 a.m., Leprechaun Leap begins at 2 p.m. 

Cost: $20 to leap or watch, admission is free for those who raise $100 or more in pledges.

  • Hosted by United Cancer Services of Elkhart County, Inc.
  • Leprechaun Leap is a water jumping challenge, similar to previous years.
  • Live music, food and cash bar. 

Bare Hands Brewery’s Galaxy Imperial Bottle Release and St. Patrick’s Day Celebration — 12804 Sandy Court, Granger

Details: Noon to 12 a.m.

  • Bare Hands will donate a portion of sales to support professional BMX rider Brett “Maddog” Banasiewicz and his Save the Kitchen Campaign.
  • A limited release of Galaxy Imperial Double IPA will be available. 
  • New Bare Hands apparel will also be available.

Dickie’s at Swan Lake Resort — 5203 Plymouth Laporte Trail, Plymouth 

Details: 5 to 11 p.m.

  • Live music from Paul Erdman begins at 9 p.m.

Little Leprechaun Contest — 604 E. Jefferson Blvd., Howard Park Stage, South Bend 

Details: Starts at 10 a.m.

  • Open to boys and girls ages 2 to 4 and 5 to 7.
  • Participants will be judged for originality and creativity of their costumes.
  • Participants should be prepared to do an Irish jig and must bring a CD of their music. 
  • Winner will receive a $25 gift certificate to Fiddler’s Hearth
  • All participants receive a complimentary gift bag.
  • Registration must be received by noon on March 13.

St. Patrick’s Day at The Brick — 1145 Northside Blvd., South Bend

Details: 5 to 11 p.m.

Cost: $10 cover to be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of St. Joseph County

      • Live music from Andrew and the Family Ferlic begins at 7 p.m. 

St.  Patrick’s Day Parade and the Greening of the East Race — South Bend

Details: Parade begins at 11 a.m. at the corner of East Jefferson Boulevard and Frances Street. Greening of the river will follow. 

      • Hosted by the Michiana Celtic Society with the assistance of the City of South Bend, DTSB and South Bend Parks & Recreation.
      • Features 60 or more units, including three to five bands (area high school bands and bagpipe ensembles), floats, police and fire squads, dance teams and animal entries.
      • This year, entries are instructed to include reference to 150th birthday of South Bend in their themed presentation. 
      • The greening of the river will take place at Seitz Park. 

Villa Macri’s Fourth Annual St. Patty’s Day Party — 225 Toscana Blvd., Granger

Details: Doors open at 4 p.m.

Cost: $8 in advance, $10 at the door, 21 and over

      • Live music from Alligator Blackbird, Southern Straightaway and The Rick Clifford Band.
      • Full bar and food will be available.

 

TUESDAY, MARCH 17 

Bowly’s Crystal Bar -— 109 Freight St., Elkhart

Details: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

      • Bowly’s will serve a dinner featuring corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, a hard boiled egg and rye bread in honor of the Irish saint.
      • Karaoke and green beer will be available. 

Fiddler’s Hearth — 127 N. Main St., South Bend

Details: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. 

Cost: $5 cover beginning at 4 p.m.

      • Featured groups include Kennedy’s Kitchen, An Dro, Three Men in Kilts and Caledonia Kilty Pipe Band.
      • There will be live music and dancing. 

Four Winds Casino — 11111 Wilson Rd., New Buffalo

Details: March 13 -17

Cost: Please see the casino’s pricing guide for children and adults on the casino’s website

      • Irish-themed buffet including corned beef, fish and chips, shepherd’s pie and Guinness-braised steak.

  • A meal of corned beef and cabbage will be prepared by Chef Kenny Weiss of Weiss’ Gasthaus.

Rohr’s at the Morris Inn — 1399 N. Notre Dame Ave., South Bend

Details: From 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Cost: Entrees range from about $10 to $12

  • An Irish-inspired menu will be served, such as Irish nachos, bangers and mash and more.
