Last weekend’s Valentine’s Day blizzard foiled date night plans for many couples. And for restaurants that ended up with crickets on what should have been the busiest night of the year, it was even more disappointing.
An editorial in The Elkhart Truth this week urged diners to help make up for it by trying again this weekend.
Those who planned to attend the Bill Engvall show at The Lerner Theatre in Elkhart get their chance for a do-over this Sunday, Feb. 22, with shows rescheduled for 4 and 7 p.m.
Downtown Elkhart restaurants that would have been the pre- or post-show destinations for those Engvall fans are opening their doors on Sunday to make sure the theater crowds are well fed — even those that are not typically open on Sundays.

New Paradigm will open its doors from 2 to 8 p.m. and is also taking reservations. Special “Valentine’s Day Part 2” menu items include a French dip sandwich, half-off bottles of wine and housemade cheesecake with a choice of three sauces: caramel with candied walnuts, chocolate ganache, or berry compote with strawberries and blueberries.

523 Tap & Grill will not be open Sunday night, according to a staff member manning the phones on Friday evening. Iechyd Da, another popular spot for theater-goers, will be open for its regular Sunday hours, noon to 8 p.m.
