Come Ash Wednesday, Feb. 18, the rich decadence of Mardi Gras packs its bags as the Lenten season launches.

The Catholic practice of abstaining from meat on Fridays during Lent is believed by followers to be a form of personal forfeiture, serving as a reminder of Jesus Christ’s own self-sacrifice.

Because fish is traditionally excluded from the meat fast, parishes and community organizations often host fish frys during Lent for disciples of the deep-fried dish.

Here are a few fish frys in the Michiana area for Lent 2015. Did we miss your favorite? Let us know in the comments, and we’ll add it to the list.
