Date Night: Do Valentine's Day 2015 different in South Bend

Valentine’s Day is a holiday that many love to hate.

It’s too commercial and too cheesy, the naysayers say.

While that may be true, Valentine’s Day also offers a break in the routine for busy couples. It comes already marked on most calendars, so it’s easy to plan ahead and save the day for something special.

Reservations are going fast for tables Saturday, Feb. 14, there are still plenty of places in South Bend to grab a different dinner and catch a dog and pony show.

Tables are still available at Woochi Japanese Fusion & Bar, 123 W. Washington St., for the restaurant’s “Miso Crazy About You” special menu, a three-course dinner for $33 per person.

  • RESERVATIONS: Call the restaurant at 574-289-2222

Menu options will include the traditional Japanese fare of sushi, pot stickers, Mongolian beef and General Tso’s chicken, and diners will also be greeted a fresh rose on their table.

Pair the meal with a Japanese plum wine or a Sapporo.

Then head over to The State Theater, 214 S. Michigan St., for “Dog & Pony, Beer & Bubbles” for music and drinks.

The self-proclaimed “New-Wop” and “Moon-Rock” four-piece band Dog & Pony is taking the stage at 8 p.m., but arrive early to grab a beer or glass of champagne.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets are $15.

Your first drink is free with pre-sale tickets, also $15, available at Indiana Rug Co. and Idle Hours Bookshop.
