In order to satisfy growing appetites for sushi, The Chubby Trout will soon begin serving sushi throughout the day.
The Elkhart restaurant will serve a selection of sushi dishes for lunch between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19.
The restaurant has served rolls, sashimi, nigiri and other such dishes between 5 and 10 p.m. for dinner over the last seven years, and general manager Ashley Wilson said it’s whet customers’ appetites.
“We had a lot of customers requesting sushi for lunch,” Wilson said. “So we thought we’d take it, and do what our customers ask.”
The lunch menu will offer some of the 30 rolls from the dinner menu, as well as bento boxes, nigiri platters and combo meals. The sushi rolls offered during lunch will be simpler, including a red tuna roll with spicy sauces and salmon, avocado and jalapeño rolls topped with wasabi mayo.
There will be fancier rolls during dinner, such as a steak and lobster roll, Wilson said. But the restaurant will also have different featured rolls from day to day.
The price of sushi rolls will still be half off from 5 to 10 p.m. Mondays, Wilson said.
The Chubby Trout is one of several restaurants in Elkhart that serves sushi, which includes Jade Garden and the upcoming Sakura Hibachi & Sushi restaurant. Even though the latter is opening right down the street from the Chubby Trout, Wilson said it’ll bring more people to the area.
“More people are going to be interested in sushi,” Wilson said. “It’ll broaden their horizons.”
The Chubby Trout is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. It’s located at 2730 Cassopolis St. in Elkhart.
