What restaurants are open on Christmas Day?

Many businesses will be closed Christmas Day, but there are a few places where hungry customers can find a meal during the Yuletide holiday.

What’s Open?

Great Wall Chinese Restaurant at 610 N. Nappanee St., Elkhart, will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Honkers at 211 E. Day Road, Mishawaka, will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a holiday brunch spread.

IHOP restaurants will be open Christmas Day. The Elkhart location at 2905 Ferndale Road will open at 6 a.m. and close at midnight, while the Mishawaka location at 4115 N. Main St. will be open 24 hours. 

King Buffet at 23672 Old U.S. 20, Elkhart, will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Mandarin Kitchen at 2501 S. Nappanee St., Elkhart, will be open from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Maple Indian Cuisine, 127 S. Main St., Goshen, will serve a buffet-style meal Christmas Day. The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Most local McDonald’s locations will be open 24 hours Christmas Day, including restaurants at 130 N. Main St. and 21879 S.R. 120 in Elkhart. 

The Skillet at 2212 McKinley Ave., South Bend, will host a family Christmas dinner from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The menu includes turkey, ham, pork tenderloin, sausage, chicken, a variety of casseroles and salads and more. Cost is $16.95 for adults and $7.95 for children. To make a reservation call 574-234-6069.

Sorin’s Restaurant, inside Morris Inn on the Notre Dame campus, will serve regular hours (6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 pm.) on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Steak ’n Shake locations will be open Christmas Day. Like most Steak ’n Shake restaurants, the location at 4025 Elkhart Road in Goshen will close at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve and reopen at 7 a.m. Christmas Day.

Special Christmas Meals & Events

Amish Acres at 1600 W. Market St., Nappanee, is offering a Christmas meal to-go before the holiday. The dinner includes cabbage salad, green beans, mashed potatoes, dressing, smoked ham, roast beef, gravy, hearth bread, apple butter and pie. Cost is $59.95 for five servings and $99.95 for 10 servings. Pre-order by 7 p.m. Dec. 22. Pickup is between 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 23. Call 800-800-4942, ext. 201, to place an order.

Das Dutchman Essenhaus at 240 U.S. 20, Middlebury, is offering a take-home Christmas dinner that customers can order ahead and pick up Christmas Eve. Choose from several traditional Christmas dinner menu options and place an order by Monday, Dec. 22, then pick up your feast by 3 p.m. on Dec. 24 — complete with reheating instructions and a choice of pie. Call 574-825-9471 to place an order.

Fiddler’s Hearth at 127 N. Main St., South Bend, will have a holiday brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21. The restaurant’s usual brunch buffet will be expanded to include a carving station with roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, turkey and ham, with figgy pudding for dessert. Plus, a gingerbread house smash will be at 1 p.m. Plates are $18 for adults, $12 for kids. Reservations are recommended.

Tippecanoe Place Restaurant at 620 W. Washington St., South Bend, will offer a Christmas Eve prime rib dinner buffet from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24. To make a reservation call 574-234-9077.

Morris Inn at Notre Dame will host a Christmas Day Brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 25. The buffet menu will include traditional eggs Benedict, made-to-order omelets, salmon with lemon dill sauce, rosemary leg of lamb, tortellini with butternut squash and more. Tickets are $39.95 for adults, $10.95 for kids ages 5 to 12 and free for children 4 and younger. Call 574-631-2000 or make reservations online.

Fiddler’s Hearth at 127 N. Main St., South Bend, is throwing a St. Stephan’s Day Party from 5 p.m. to midnight Dec. 26. The event will feature live Irish music and holiday food and drink specials. Customers are invited to come wearing Dickens-era costumes.
