Michiana restaurants spread holiday cheer with food and fun

If you’re not quite feeling the holiday spirit yet, you’re running out of time! We prescribe a healthy dose of food, drink and weird, festive fun at one of these upcoming holiday events — you’ll be feeling festive in no time.

Thursday, Dec. 11, 5 p.m. — Three Floyds Festivus Party at Chubby Trout in Elkhart

Wear your most Festivus holiday garb, ugly sweater or just plain awkward outfit and compete for prizes, drawings and giveaways. A Three Floyds tap takeover will feature 10 Three Floyds beers, and 50 cents from each beer sold benefits the Food Bank of Elkhart County.

Two of the featured beers, Blot out the Sun (imperial stout) and Nite Wolf (porter), are very limited releases — Dan Szucs, the Indiana Wholesale distributor for Three Floyds, told Eric Strader of Hop Notes that these are the only kegs of those beers available in Elkhart County.

Holiday Lunches at LaSalle Grill in South Bend

LaSalle Grill offers a special holiday lunch menu on select days leading up to Christmas. Schedule an office luncheon or just drop by with friends while shopping in downtown South Bend. Thursday and Friday, Dec. 11-12; Thursday and Friday, Dec. 18-19; Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 22-23. 

Saturday, Dec. 13, 9 p.m. — Mustache and Christmas Sweater Party at Bilbo’s Pizza in Kalamazoo

This annual party features live music from The Hired Hands, no cover charge and lots of drink specials. Plus, trophies will be awarded for the best dressed male and female — so be sure to come sporting your finest sweaters and/or lip warmers.

Sunday, Dec 21, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. — Holiday Brunch at Fiddler’s Hearth in South Bend

Fiddler’s Hearth’s expands its usual brunch buffet to include a carving station with roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, turkey and ham. For dessert: figgy pudding. At 1 p.m., take part in the gingerbread house smash and help eat the wreckage. Plates are $18 for adults, $12 for kids. Reservations recommended.

Monday, Dec 22, 5-11 p.m. — Winter Warmer at Fiddler’s Hearth in South Bend

Warm up with a craft beer tap takeover featuring rare regional brews like Goose Island’s Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout, Upland’s 2013 Bourbon Barrel Warmer, People’s Brewing Company’s 2014 Bourbon Barrel Ardelle, Dark Horse’s 2013 Plead the Fifth and others. Plus, the brews will be complemented with hearty, holiday-inspired food pairings.
