If you’re skipping the big home-cooked Thanksgiving meal this year, that doesn’t mean you can’t still be well fed. There are several restaurants in the Michiana area open on Thanksgiving Day, where you can enjoy a turkey dinner without spending the whole day cooking or washing dishes.
The Pizza Depot and the Matterhorn Conference Center are both offering free dinners for the community. The Pizza Depot’s turkey dinner will be available between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. at 104 S. Jefferson St., Millersburg. Delivery is available for the elderly, disabled and veterans. The Matterhorn, located at 2041 Cassopolis St., Elkhart, will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to contact the Salvation Army Elkhart at 574-970-0088.
Ruth’s Chris Steak House at 902 E. University Drive, Granger, will be serving a three-course holiday meal from noon until 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Ruth’s Chris does not offer an entire take-home meal, but customers can order sides (including mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole and creamed spinach) for pick-up.
Amish Acres at 1600 W. Market Street, Nappanee, will serve a buffet dinner from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. A carry-out dinner is available for pickup on Nov. 26, though customers are encouraged to order before Nov. 24.
The Skillet at 2212 McKinley Avenue, South Bend, will prepare more than 140 turkeys for Thanksgiving. The restaurant is known for its take-home meal (and will take orders up to Thanksgiving Day), but will also be open for customers between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Sorin’s, the restaurant located inside the Morris Inn on Notre Dame’s campus, will offer a holiday menu and buffet between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The restaurant will also honor its usual hours, opening for breakfast at 6:30 a.m. and serving dinner between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m.
Tippecanoe Place, located at 620 W. Washington Street, South Bend, will serve a holiday buffet from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
East Bank Emporium Restaurant at 121 S. Niles Avenue, South Bend, will offer a limited holiday menu between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
Macri’s Italian Kitchen at 315 W. Ireland Road, South Bend, will serve a buffet and a regular menu between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The restaurant will also offer a pick-up meal option.
Bob Evans locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Patrons can order off the regular menu until 11 a.m., and a turkey dinner will be served after that. A pickup dinner is also available for customers who order two days in advance. There are four local Bob Evans locations: 2915 Brittany Court, Elkhart; 5823 Grape Road, Mishawaka; 425 W. Pike St., Goshen; and 204 Dixie Way, Roseland.
Perkins Restaurant, with locations at 107 N. Pointe Boulevard, Elkhart, and at 423 S. Dixie Highway, South Bend, will be open during their regular hours, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., on Thanksgiving Day. Both restaurants are offering a special turkey dinner, which comes with a slice of pie (choose from 16 varieties) and a drink.
Callahan’s Restaurant at 2917 Cassopolis Street, Elkhart, will remain open the entire night before Thanksgiving and will serve a full menu until 11 a.m. A special holiday menu will be available between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Cracker Barrel at 110 N. Pointe Boulevard, Elkhart, will be open for its regular hours (6 a.m. to 10 p.m.) on Thanksgiving Day. The restaurant is also offering a carry-out dinner option, but requests that customers order several days ahead.
Hunter’s Place at 2703 S. Main Street, Elkhart, will serve a limited holiday menu between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Honkers at 211 E. Day Road, Mishawaka, will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The restaurant will offer a holiday menu and a pick-up meal for preorder.
Lunker’s & Angler’s Inn Restaurant is still accepting reservations for its Thanksgiving Buffet. Seatings are at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The restaurant is located on the site of Lunker’s outdoors store at 26324 U.S. 12, Edwardsburg. Call (269) 663-3745 for reservations.
Not a big turkey fan? The buffet at Maple Indian Cuisine at 127 S. Main Street, Goshen, will be open from 11 a.m to 5 p.m.
For those who just need a few bagels or pastries to tide them over while watching the parades on Thanksgiving morning, the Panera at 4310 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, will be open between 6 and 11 a.m.
Dunkin’ Donuts locations will also cater to the sweet-toothed crowd on Thanksgiving Day. The Goshen Dunkin’ Donuts, located at 906 W Pike St., will open from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. The South Bend location at 52931 Indiana S. R. 933 will be open all day from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., while the 4336 S Michigan St. shop will be open from 4:30 a.m. to at least 7 p.m.
