After nearly 40 years in the restaurant business, the owners of Wok Inn said goodbye.

A few customers were surprised by the Sept. 28 closure. Even the Elkhart County Health Department inspectors didn’t know why Steven and Joann Mark closed the restaurant and moved out the equipment.

Mrs. Mark said they simply decided to retire.

The couple opened the small Chinese restaurant, serving primarily Cantonese fare, in 2001. The couple had worked at Pagoda Inn in Goshen starting in 1974. His family had started the restaurant in the 1960s.

The Marks sold that property in 1997 and opened Wok Inn a few years later. The property at 2820 Elkhart Road looks similar from the outside as Pagoda did, but now houses Kaizen Hibachi Grill Sushi & Bar.

Mark thanked all her customers and said they were her “best friends.”

“I will miss them all very much,” she said.
