Last month, The Bacon Strip in Elkhart kicked off voting in a recipe contest giving customers the chance to have a say in a brand new dish to be added to the menu.

The first round of the contest matched up four dishes: the Bac’d In Waffle submitted by Kim Whittaker, the Canadian Bacon and Fries Omelet submitted by Laura Coyne, the Gut Buster Burger submitted by Andora Bahr and and the Hillbilly Bacon Dog submitted by Jaimie Dayton.

Customers at The Bacon Strip voted with their orders over two weeks, and the Hillbilly Bacon Dog emerged victorious. It will move on to the championship round Oct. 15 and face off against the winner of Round 2.

More details on the contest here.

Voting in Round 2 started a week ago, Sept. 30, pitting four more reader-submitted recipes against one another. Here they are — again, in no particular order.

Bacon Cheese Bites
Take small chunks of mozzarella and wrap with crispy bacon and pastry dough into bite-sized morsels. Bake until golden brown. Submitted by Crystal Welsh.

The Big Chick
Fried chicken served on top of a fresh biscuit and smothered in bacon gravy, topped with an over-easy egg and chopped bacon. Submitted by Phillip Joachim.

Bacon Ham & Mac Stack
Applewood smoked bacon and honey cured ham served on a sweet roll, topped with house-made mac & cheese. Submitted by Judy Weicht.

Bacon Corn
Sweet corn cooked with sauteed onions, a bit of bacon and finished off with a dash of spices. Submitted by Sonya Nash.

The recipe that emerges victorious will not only earn itself a spot on The Bacon Strip’s regular menu, but will also win its submitter a $100 Visa gift card and one free meal per week for a year at The Bacon Strip.

Voting in Round 2 is open now and continues through Oct. 12. If you can’t stuff yourself with enough bacon-centric meals to vote as much as you want to, there are other ways to cast your ballot — just ask your server.
