You can mark your calendars for Elkhart Dining Days.

For the third year, local, independent restaurants will offer specials and donate a portion of the proceeds to help others.

Flavor 574 and The Elkhart Truth are organizing this year’s event for Oct. 17-25.

Restaurant owners are helping make the plans for the week of specials and promotion.

Michele Scherpenberg of Epicureans Unite started the event with some of the owners two years ago. She wants to focus on other things and approached us about carrying forward her work. We’re thrilled to do so.

Participating restaurants will come up with specials to sell for $10, $20 or $30. Food businesses that are smaller scale may choose to offer a special that week. All of them will then donate 10 percent of the sales of those specials to Food Bank of Elkhart County, a program of Church Community Services that provides food to nearly 50 food pantries and kitchens in Elkhart County.

Restaurants who are interested in participating should contact Andrea Gartee at 574-296-5812 or agartee@elkharttruth.com.
