Fudge-inspired drinks and food abound at Mackinac Island's Fudge Festival

Mackinac Island’s fudge is a big draw for tourists year-round, but during one weekend every summer the candy takes over. 

At the Mackinac Island Fudge Festival (August 22-24) visitors can get “Fudge on the Rocks” — drinks prepared by the island bartenders that imitate the area’s famous treats. 

Mary’s Bistro and Ryba’s Fudge, two fudge shops on the island, are also offering dinner featuring fudge-inspired entrees, desserts and even fudge-themed martinis. 

Other events include fudge making demonstrations all day Saturday, beer tastings and a fudge giveaway for kids. 

Here’s the complete list of activities: 

Friday, August 22

6 to 9 p.m. — Mary’s Bistro fudge dinner, Ryba’s Fudge-inspired dinner, desserts and Ryba’s Fudge Martini

3 to 5 p.m. — Beer tasting at Pink Pony, featuring Mackinac Island Fudge Stout created by Arbor Brewing Company

Saturday, August 23

1 p.m. — Fudge making demonstration at Sanders

2 p.m. — Fudge making demonstration at Joanne’s

3 p.m. — Fudge making demonstration at Ryba’s

4 p.m. — Fudge making demonstration at Murdick’s

5 p.m. — Fudge making demonstration at May’s

3 to 5 p.m. — Beer tasting at Pink Pony

6 to 9 p.m. — Mary’s Bistro fudge dinner, Ryba’s Fudge-inspired dinner, desserts and Ryba’s Fudge Martini

Sunday, August 24

10 a.m. — Ryba’s Fudge Loompahs: see the loompahs deliver the Golden Tickets to fudge shops on Main Street with Lars, the Friesian Horse.

12:30 p.m. — Fudge giveaway: first 100 kids to check in at Windermere Point receive a half-pound box of fudge.

1 p.m. — Great Turtle Slow Ride at Windermere Point.

1:30 p.m. — Sugar Relay

2 to 4 p.m. Daddy…I want the Golden Ticket! contest. Participants look for the Golden Ticket at fudge shops or fill out an entry form at the Tourism Bureau on Main Street, for a free chance to win a vacation to Mackinac Island.
