Six food and drink events in Michiana this weekend

Itching to get out of the house this weekend? You’re in luck – there are plenty of food and drink-centric events happening in Michiana Friday through Sunday.

Here are a few of them:

Bottlecaps & Corks: An Amateur Beer & Wine Competition

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Elkhart County is hosting its first amateur beer and wine competition from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 29. 

The admission cost has been reduced from $40 to $20 and includes a souvenir glass, a food item and beer and wine tastings. Guests must be 21 years or older to attend. 

Tickets can be purchased online at Brown Paper Tickets, and all funds raised will benefit BBBS of Elkhart County.

The event will be held at Christiana Creek Country Club, 116 W. Bristol St., Elkhart. 

Local Foods Bakery & Café in Granger to host grand opening

This organic café and bakery is offering free lemonade and cookies to visitors in celebration of newly completed renovations.

Marianne Christy, owner of Local Foods Bakery & Café in Granger, opened the brick & mortar store in March on 12435 Adams Road at Bittersweet Centre. She has been selling her baked goods made with local ingredients at area farmers markets and co-ops since 2007.

The grand opening will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, June 27, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28.

Silver Hawks will lead clinic at Concord Little League food drive

In conjunction with the South Bend Silver Hawks, Flavor 574 and Concord Little League are hosting a food drive at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Concord Little League Fields, 57582 C.R. 17, Goshen.

The Silver Hawks will lead a short hour and a half clinic for players of all ages. To participate, bring a food donation. Food will be donated to Church Community Services.

2014 South Bend Summer Restaurant Week features food specials

It’s Summer Restaurant Week, a 13-day event featuring specials at 15 restaurants in downtown South Bend.

From June 23 to July 6, each restaurant is offering either a multiple course meal for $33 per person or a dinner for two for $33.

Participating restaurants include: Baker’s Bar and Grille at the Doubletree Hotel, Café Navarre, Chicory Café, Ciao’s Lounge, East Bank Emporium, Fiddler’s Hearth, LaSalle Grill, LaSalle Kitchen & Tavern, LePeep, Linden Grill, Siam Thai, South Bend Chocolate Café, Sunny Italy Café, Tippecanoe Place Restaurant and Woochi Japanese Fusion & Bar.

About 10 percent of the cost of each meal will be donated to Memorial Children’s Hospital of South Bend.

Free pork burger, discounts for Mishler Customer Appreciation Days 

Mishler Packing Co. of LaGrange is hosting two customer appreciation days from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, June 27, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 28.

The focus of the event is the Mishler Pork Burger Pattie, the company’s top selling product, according to a press release.

Customers who stop by will receive a free pork burger sandwich. There will also be discounts on the Mishler Pork Burger Pattie.

Yoga in the Vineyard features wine, music and more

A yoga and wine-tasting event in Bristol this weekend will benefit HeartStrings Sisters, a program that connects newly-diagnosed breast cancer patients to breast cancer survivors.

Yoga in the Vineyard will take place Saturday, June 27, at Fruit Hills Winery & Orchard, 55503 S.R. 15, Bristol.

The event begins at 6:15 p.m. with a Hatha Yoga session. Participants should bring their own yoga mat, props and blanket or towel.

From 6 to 8 p.m. is a wine tasting sponsored by Fruit Hills Winery with special guest Marshall King of The Elkhart Truth.

Live entertainment by Waterbound and light fare is offered from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
