Father's Day feast options in and around Elkhart County
They say there’s no better way to a guy’s heart than through his stomach, so be sure to feed Dad well this Father’s Day.
Go out for a hearty home-cooked meal
The Restaurant Barn at Amish Acres, 1600 W. Market St. in Nappanee, will offer a Father’s Day dinner special. Eat a classic Threshers dinner, with an Amish Country 1930s-style menu such as country chicken, ham and bean soup, fresh bread, garden relish, cabbage slaw, green beans, beef and noodles, mashed potatoes and dessert, served family style. Dad’s meal is free with a family of four or more. Print off the coupon at Amish Acres’ website. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Raise a toast to Pop
For dads who want to cleanse their palate, Lemon Creek Winery, 533 E. Lemon Creek Road, Berrien Springs, Mich., will host its 30th annual Father’s Day Festival. The event runs from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 15, featuring live music by Libido Funk Circus, grilled food, wine tasting, hayrides and kids games. The cost is $10 at the gate for a souvenir wine glass and wine tasting; those 21 and younger are admitted free.
A few of Dad’s favorite things
There are plenty of local favorites with Sunday hours. The Lux Café in Goshen opens for breakfast at 7 a.m. Sundays and serves brunch-style foods until 3 p.m.
Is Dad a craft beer guy? Evil Czech Brewery and Public House in Mishawaka has a range of tasty, original beer options to keep him happy for hours. And the Sunday brunch, starting at 11 a.m., is about as manly as brunch gets.
Granite City Food and Brewery in Mishawaka will also serve a Father’s Day Sunday Brunch beginning at 9 a.m. with dishes like Cajun pasta, fresh toast, pork loin, fresh fruit and egg skillets.
For those who like to indulge in a Bloody Mary for Sunday brunch, Chicory Cafe in South Bend has a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar on Sunday morning, which goes wonderfully with its eggs Benedict specials. We also recommend the Bloody Marys at The Mark Dine & Tap, Cafe Navarre and LaSalle Grill (also in South Bend).
Fat Tomato, 4100 E. Bristol St., Elkhart, will serve flat iron steak for $10.99 and an across-the-board craft beer special, among its usual Italian favorites, from 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday.
For lunch, Sports Time Family Pub and Grill offers 60-cent wings and beer specials beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing through the dinner hour.
Top off the meal with ice cream from The Chief in Goshen, open from 2 to 9:30 p.m. — the wait in line will be worth the sweet gesture.
Go for the grill
If going out for a meal sounds like too much work, it should be a beautiful day to fire up the grill at home. Make sweet and sour chicken wings from Martha Stewart, cowboy beans and molasses-cider coleslaw from Williams-Sonoma, potato salad from delish.com and “barbeque grill” cupcakes from blogger The Peach Kitchen.
