Eight restaurants and their star burgers have been selected to compete in the first round of the Northern Indiana Burger Wars in Elkhart County.
Voting in each county begins Friday, May 16, according to a press release from Elkhart County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau, which is hosting the Elkhart County burger bracket.
The eight contenders in Elkhart County are:
Grilled Cheese & Burger: Miles Lab, Elkhart
A patty of aged ground chuck sits between two grilled cheese sandwiches.
Smokehouse Burger: Five Star Dive Bar, Elkhart
This burger has Gouda and Colby Jack cheeses and Applewood-smoked bacon, plus barbecue sauce is glazed into the burger during cooking.
HeinnieCheeseburger: Heinnie’s Backbarn Restaurant, Elkhart
Fresh chuck from a local butcher is used for this burger.
Pesto Burger: Constant Spring, Goshen
The all-natural burger includes pesto, smoked mozzarella and tomatoes.
Stella Moo Burger: Flippin Cow, Elkhart
This customer favorite is a double steak burger with brisket, bacon, cheese, onion straws and barbecue sauce.
Mushroom & Swiss Burger: Sports Time Family Pub & Grill, Elkhart
Sautéed mushrooms and melted Swiss are key to this burger.
New England Cheeseburger: South Side Soda Shop, Goshen
English muffin bread is made specifically for this burger.
The Big Irish: McCarthy’s on the RiverWalk, Elkhart
This burger, named with Notre Dame in mind, includes fried egg, coleslaw and avocado.
The winner of Elkhart County Burger Wars will advance to the regional Burger Wars bracket and go up against winning burgers from restaurants in Porter, LaPorte, St. Joseph, LaGrange, Marshall and Kosciusko counties. Voting for the regional contest will begin June 13.
