For two days, a Fort Wayne-based chocolate shop will donate half of its profits for a good cause.

DeBrand Fine Chocolates will donate 50 percent of proceeds from purchases made in stores and online on Sunday, April 27, and Monday, April 28, to the Home of Love, a nonprofit organization raising orphaned girls in India.

DeBrand Fine Chocolates founder Cathy Brand-Beere said in a statement she was inspired to spread the word about the girls she met after traveling to India to visit the Home of Love in March. The organization provides housing and education to nearly 100 girls.

“Unfortunately, girls in India are not always valued, and in some cases they are abandoned or killed simply because their families cannot afford to take care of a ‘girl’,” she said in a statement.

The money that the chocolate shop will donate will go to helping build a dorm with beds for the girls. According to a press release from DeBrand Fine Chocolates, the girls currently sleep on bamboo mats on concrete floors.

Want to help? You can purchase chocolate at any of DeBrand’s three Fort Wayne locations, on Auburn Road, Coldwater Road  and Jefferson Pointe Shooting Center, or online, at debrand.com. Shipping orders must be shipped by Tuesday, April 29, and in-store orders must be picked up by Monday.

You can also donate directly to Home of Love online, at homeofloveindia.com.
