Elkhart County’s newest restaurant didn’t get open for St. Patrick’s Day, but did make it in time for the NCAA tournament.
Wing’s Etc. opened at 23222 U.S. 33, Dunlap on Tuesday, according to Rob Hensmann, chief financial officer, who was having lunch there Thursday, March 20, with several other company officials.
“They’re quickly realizing that we’re open,” he said of customers who have been anticipating the new spot.
Founder Jim Weaver opened the restaurant along Grape Road, Mishawaka, in 1994. Since then, it’s become a chain and grown to 28 locations, 18 of which are franchises.
The Dunlap location is the 10th corporate store.
Fun facts about the place:
- It has an Elkhart address, but was annexed into the city of Goshen. It has a different street address and postal address too. That’s why they’ll call it the Dunlap location to go along with the one in Elkhart at 105 C.R. 6 and on the southeast side of Goshen at 2815 Gateway Drive.
- The restaurant has 160 seats and 75 staff members, Hensmann said.
- It has 28 televisions, which means the walls are lined with them. There’s one 70-inch screen, five 60-inch screens and the rest are 50-inch televisions, Hensmann said.
- As the snow melts, employees are cleaning up construction debris left behind.
He and others expect the location to do well. The Goshen location is doing really well, Weaver said.
Weaver said he was just trying to make a living all those years ago. When he’s asked whether he knew what it’d become, he says, “Of course I did.” And when he visits a store, he orders wings, fries and Miller Lite.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 11 to midnight Friday and Saturday and 11 to 10 on Sunday.
