Kelly Fortier has run Flavor Freeze for 23 years, but she and her husband, Steve Fortier, are now the owners.
The couple purchased the business in October from Scott Wise and his family.
Bob Wise started the stand at 23834 U.S. 33 in Dunlap in 1966 and then another at 1628 E. Bristol St. 22 years later.
Steve Fortier has been running Maple City Fire Protection for two decades and was looking for another investment. His wife’s close connection to Flavor Freeze meant they had an opportunity. “This is a no-brainer for me,” he said.
The stands opened Monday, Feb. 17, for the summer season. Funnel fries, a dessert combining funnel cakes and fries, are on the menu. Frozen yogurt isn’t anymore.
Fortier said he hopes to market the ice cream wholesale to some other local locations.
